Media Library
Redesigned the Media Library and Playlist experience so web operators could directly manage content displayed on newme. The project connected content management in the Owner Portal with device status and feedback, giving operators clearer control over what was actually shown on each device.
Previously, web operators could not directly manage media displayed on newme. Updating content required coordination across operators, internal administrators, backend teams, and on-site staff—creating delays, repeated communication, and inconsistencies between devices.
I redesigned the experience around operator ownership: enabling operators to upload and organize media, build playlists, assign content to newme, and understand whether their changes were successfully reflected on the physical device.
The problem wasn't just a complicated workflow. It was a lack of control.
The original process separated the person managing content from the people deploying and verifying it. Operators could initiate a request, but they could not directly control the outcome or clearly confirm whether the correct content had reached the device.
This created operational risk, increased communication costs, and weakened trust in the experience—especially because actions taken in a digital interface produced results on a remote physical device.
Reframed from “the deployment process is too complicated” to “operators cannot control or verify the result of their actions.”
This shift was intended to remove the structural bottleneck rather than simply make the existing approval process faster.
- —Gave operators direct ownership of media upload and management
- —Introduced playlists to manage multiple media assets as an operational unit
- —Connected playlist assignment with individual newme devices
- —Added device-level sync status to distinguish Synced and Error states
- —Designed feedback for updating, success, disabled, and error states
- —Connected digital actions in the Owner Portal with physical outcomes on newme
The Media Library removed the need to repeatedly depend on internal administrators for media formatting and deployment, while Playlists made it possible to organize multiple assets and display them directly on newme.
From media management to an end-to-end operational flow
Instead of treating the Media Library as a standalone repository, I connected the full workflow. Operators could configure content through playlists and check from the web whether it had been correctly reflected on physically remote newme devices. If something failed, the interface surfaced the device status so operators could recognize and respond to the issue directly.
Action → Result → Feedback
Because the product connects a web interface with physical devices, completing an action in the UI was not enough—the operator also needed confidence that the change had actually reached newme. I designed feedback states around that relationship, communicating when a playlist was updating, successfully updated, disabled, or failed. This created a two-way feedback structure between the Owner Portal and newme and reduced the need to verify changes through other teams.
Shifted content management from a communication-heavy process to an operator-controlled system.
The redesigned experience allowed operators to manage signage content directly while maintaining visibility into device status and deployment results. This reduced dependency on internal teams and established a clearer connection between operator action → digital system → physical device → feedback.
